Prof. Dr. Tarek Mahmud Hussain

Professional Summary: Dr Tarek spent over 16  years in international public health and social sector management positions with/or for UNICEF, WHO , ADB and  USAID in Indonesia, Thailand,  India, Bangladesh, Liberia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Albania, South Sudan, Vietnam  and Somalia.  During the time, he provided management and technical expertise on multimillion dollar emergency and development programs, especially this included three years in Indonesia managing UNICEF Tsunami Response to Health and Nutrition  as a Chief of the Program,  4 years in Central Asia, managing UNICEF’s interventions to strengthen the national health system and improve country-wide health and nutrition status for women and children, and with UNICEF Liberia as a health advisor in providing technical assistance to MOH, Liberia in policy development, system strengthening and capacity building, and also worked in India and Egypt with UNICEF in assisting vaccine security, disease surveillance, procurement capacity development, integrated health and nutrition public information campaigns and fund raising and donor coordination; worked  as a Asian Development Bank Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) for  the Ministry of Health, Vietnam, in Greater Mekong Sub-region Communicable Disease control Initiative.

Fellowship) in 1998. Dr. Hussain  received a postgraduate diploma in MCH Nutrition from the IAC, Netherland (under the Dutch Govt. Fellowship) in 1993.He also completed an internship with UN ESCAP, Bangkok (Population Division) in 1996. Dr. Hussain obtained a postgraduate training in planning and development, Academy for Planning and Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka in 1993.
